Where I’m From

I am from hours on a court,
from fast running and hard hitting
I am from where city and paradise collide
(Soothing sounds, fast paced and full of excitement)
I am from the smell of the forest,
And the fire of the Volcano
Whose fresh smell calms the heat of the molten rocks

I’m from Christmas dinners and love of music
from Glenn and Chris and Che
I’m from the distinguished and hard workers

From “ When I was in the Philippines” and “ Your so lucky for the food we have”
If from Thou shall not sin
Whose words dwell in my mind constantly
And the Lords prayer which is heard every week

I’m from Frank and Chris’ Branch
Fried lumpia and juicy barbeque
From the late nights spent with cousins while parents were out

Giving me happiness and freedom from watchful eyes
From the many albums walls and tables filled with photos
Documenting every detail of one child’s life
and showing memories of loved ones that are lost
a record of those living and those who have passed

I am from those moments—
Snapped before I budded—
Leaf-fall from the family tree

How the Government policy lead to conflict

The U.S. created a conflict with their policy of moving the Indians to build a railroad. This created a conflict because felt like they were being invaded and defied the treaty that was made before. They could have avoided this by sticking to the treaty and took a different route that wasn’t on the Native Americans land. I think that today’s government should make reparations for the treaties that were broken. They should give them money or land to make up for stealing the land from that era. They should do this because they went against their word and owe it to the Native Americans

Expected Expansion Doesn’t Happen

After the transcontinental railroad was built expected expansion didn’t happen immediately. I think this happened because of the harsh weather conditions and dangers that the train passed through. The people may have felt unsafe about riding on this form of transportation. They also already had a form of transportation on boats that they were comfortable and familiar with. These are some reasons why the railroad being constructed didn’t create a instant expansion that America thought it would

Difficulties of Creating the Transcontinental railroad

The Union Pacific and The Central Pacific encountered many problems while trying to create the transcontinental railroad. One thing that was a problem was the environment. The Union Pacific had to deal with the harsh heat of over 100 degrees while the Central Pacific had to deal with the narrow mountainside of the Sierra’s this created many hazards and many were injured bad and killed. I think that the Union Pacific faced more problems because they had to face scorching heat. This made working harder and faster more difficult because of fatigue. While they also had to transport the wood from very far away.  This is why the Union Pacific faced more problems.

Transcontinental Railroad Importance

The transcontinental railroad was one of the most important structures created in U.S history. The Transcontinental connected the East to the West. The railroad created a faster and more comfortable  way to travel. There were 2 companies who paved the way for this amazing accomplishment. The Central Pacific who laid their tracks across the Sierras to create a northern route to the west and the Union Pacific who mad a southern route to the west going through deserts. The government had great interest in these two companies’ projects and decided to help them develop their railroads. The government provided money for the companies to help them build. The government paid them per mile of railroad which made the workers work harder and faster to get the railroad done. These two companies created an amazing accomplishment and the U.S. government played a big role in their success.
